Symantec, how about commenting on Build 7170 - what is new in it, what has been fixed?

Symantec - how about listing all the fixes and new features in Build 7170 as the build has been quietly released into the wild without much explanation on what has been fixed and what new features exist.

This is what I know.

1. All the HF's up to 16 have been baked in
2. The missed job notifications in the job log supposesedly have been fixed (not confirmed)
3. The restore in Exchange now shows all mailboxes (fixed the cn=Recipient bug)
4. Exchange restores still do NOT work on external messages (sent via SMTP, rather than MAPI)
5. Exchange 2007 support has been added, hopefully it works better than 2003 support
6. Vista support has been added
7. ?
8. ?
9. ?
10. ?

etc.....more insight would greatly be appreciated.

In addition, can you fix the boards where the newest replies stay at the top, if I change the board option, it works until I do a refresh, then it is broken, have to log back in to get that feature to work.

It would be nice to get an explanation of the SMTP cannot restore problem and more importantly, when will it be fixed?   What options are there to making Exchange backups, pros and cons of each, and what not to use in various situations.

IE Does GRT work on Exch2003?  What does and doesn't work.
Does GRT work on Exch2007?  What does and does not work.

Symantec employees - Where are you?

We need some information, can you provide it for us?

Pretty please with cherry on top. (This is what the kids use on me) :smileywink:

This release fixes some very specific things for customers. It has not been tested 100% yet and has not been announced because of that. It is not yet meant for wide release.

Corey,

that might be true, however, it is the version that is now available as the trial version, you would think they would announce Vista and EX 2007 support if those features work in the product.

It should be posted to the board that this version has these features and fixes these bugs, the board is very active in voicing their opinions and reporting their feedback, who else to be a better beta tester group for BEX 11d (I still feel that this is still a Beta product) as some of the key features never worked the day the product was sold such as being able to restore Exchange mailboxes and backing up to tape and getting reliable backups and restores of the Exchange mailboxes as well as the GRT features not working until several hotfixes later.

At least 7170 fixed my "specific thing" of having had an Exchange 2007 roll out on hold for months waiting for a way to back the servers up :smileyvery-happy:

Thats my "specific thing" to.

I was told to get 7170 from https://fileconnect.symantec.com/ ... Okay this is experiencing download issues now (and have been that for the last couple of days).. So Symantec kindly ask to download from an alternate download site...

Downloading 500mb only to find that on this site it's 6235 that's being downloaded.. Freaking unprofessional...

I'm sooooooo tired dealing with Symantec now....

I was having that problem too. I was finally able to download it by going the trial version route. It did not fix my problem not being able to backup Exchange 2000 to Disk.

FWIW, here is the ReadMe for v11d.7170

If this response answers your concern, please mark it as a "solution"

Ken,

I don't think that "readme" is relevant, the date on the readme is from Feb 07 and the 7170 build did not come out till the 23rd of March, almost a whole month later, I know for a fact that my specific fixes related to Exchange restores were not documented in the Feb "readme".

I would still like to see if there is an official "release notes document" that contains the fixes and new features somewhere, it sure wasn't part of the download.

Backup performance improved in XP Pro x64 SP2 AMD64.   SQLXMLX.DLL broke and you can't see job history.   I might try rolling back to the 3265 SQL Express.

Yeah,

it has finally been release, see the document at the top (sticky section) of the message board.

Now, how about listing the "still open issues" such as not being able to restore SMTP messages successfully and others.

Thanks.

Cannot restore SMTP messages?  How can they say they protect Exchange?
