Symantec Ignoring Client Features

Hi all
has anyone else had an issue where you have installed SEP on a client machine, using the console manager, verified all you want to do is install the Antivirus and Antispyware features. But it turns out, that this request is ignored and SEP installs everything and turns it all on.
This is very frustrating as you can imagine as turning everything on stop people from working.
We've changed the "install packages" on a group turning off the option "maintain existing features" and just use our custom install package which specifies only to install AV & AS.
anyone else experienced this / know a solution?
Edit: this is with the MR1 package.

MR1; I created an install package with only Antivirus & Antispyware Protection feature to a group which had all client features installed (antivirus, proactive and network threat) And that worked fine. Within hours the clients upgraded.
Within the group you could maybe try to withdraw the other features under policy, so you've only got the antivirus and liveupdate feature left. That's what I did. I don't know if that will have any impact though....
