    Hello,

I am trying to install Workflow 7.1 on a new server.  I have installed the Symantec Installation Manager, but it will only allow me to create installation packages.  All of the other options, including "Install New Products" are grayed out.  I have searched for hours on how to resolve this issue, but have not found anything helpful.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing here, but are you running SIM on a SMP compatible platform (Windows 2003 32bit, or Windows 2008 R2 64bit)?

You can also trying running the SIM executable from a command line, sometimes it will output useful error messages..

Thanks for the reply.  I'm running Windows Server 2008 6.0, Build 6002 (x64).  Running the executable from a command line produced the following log:

    C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager>symantecinstallationmanager.com
    [Launching 'C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\SimConsole.dll']
4: 16:11:52: Symantec Installation Manager launched with args ''
    4: 16:11:52: Creating SimApplicationContext
4: 16:11:54: Initializing the current SimApplicationContext
4: 16:11:54: SimApplicationContext using default (registry) configuration settings
    4: 16:12:05: Application Context initialized
4: 16:12:08: Creating SimWizardContext for mode 'CreatePackage'
4: 16:12:08: SimWizardContext using default (registry) configuration settings

Do you have any additional help you can give?

Steve, I don't think that's an R2 version. This is what you will see if you type "systeminfo" from the command line for a standard edition of R2.  Btw, R2 is 64 bit only, so if you can find any install media with 2008 R2, you should be in good shape.  I also recall that there were issues with WF running on R2 SP1, so avoid applying the available service pack update for the near future.

    C:\Users\Administrator>systeminfo

    Host Name:                 SWEDGE
OS Name:                   Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
    OS Version:                6.1.7600 N/A Build 7600
    OS Manufacturer:           Microsoft Corporation
    OS Configuration:          Standalone Server
    OS Build Type:             Multiprocessor Free

I’m having the same issue with SIM.
Trying to test run in a lab environment.
Does SIM has any version requirements or incompatibility issue with
    Windows server 2003 R2 32 bit system + SP2?
By the way I also have Active directory installed in there.

    Some info:
OS Name:                   Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Standard Edition
OS Version:                5.2.3790 Service Pack 2 Build 3790
    OS Manufacturer:           Microsoft Corporation
    OS Configuration:          Primary Domain Controller
    OS Build Type:             Multiprocessor Free

I'm 99% certain that SMP installation is not supported on AD domain controllers.  If I recall correctly, it causes permission issues for the IIS App Pool.  I don't think that 2003 R2 is an issue, the R2 piece for 2003 was essentially just some optional features.  R2 for 2008 actually changes the IIS version from 7.0 to 7.5.

I checked the server using systeminfo, and it came back with:

    Microsoftr Windows Serverr 2008 Standard

No "R2" mentioned anywhere.  Also, notice the extra R's after "Micosoft" and "Server".  I'm going to have to talk with our server team...  I know our standard is 2008 R2, so I'm not sure how this happened.

If I have any issues with R2 once it's loaded properly, I'll post my information here.  Thanks for your help!!!

Happy to help.  Those extra R's are trademark icons, a bit confusing when they start using R as version :).
