I am trying to download the Asset Management Solution for the Symantec Management Platform, for a trial. When I try to run the Symantec Installation Manager on my Windows Server 2008 R2 box it says "Installation of Symantec Installation Manager cannot proceed. The following requirement(s) were not met: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit edition of Windows is required. Installer will not exit."

I have done all of the updates with Windows Updates, including SP1.

    Appreciate any help!

Is it really 64-bit?  SP1 is now supported as of 7.1 SP1.  Did you get prompted for updates to SIM?  Did you install those updates?  Is 7.1 SP1 the version you're installing?

    Thanks for the reply, Mclemson.

Windows Server 2008 R2 only comes in 64-bit. You cant buy that version in 32-bit. It is also 7.1 SP1 that I am installing and it does not reach the updates portion. It fails as soon as I click the SIM executable.

    Appreciate any assistance.

Good call on R2.  That was a pre-coffee moment for sure.

You could disable the check for SIM pre-reqs:

    1. Add key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM to the registry.
    2. Create a DWord named IgnoreInstallPrerequisites; set the value to 1.
    3. Add key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM\InstallReadinessCheck\ to the registry.
    4. Create a DWord named EnableNextButton and set the value to 1.

Does this get you anywhere?  If it's actually seeing some sort of issue in the environment, this won't solve the problem.  I would verify each of the requirements independently before running the install to make sure they're met (OS, browser version, IIS configuration, etc).

Appreciate it Mark; your instructions worked like a charm.

Pre-coffee I can barely string a sentence together, so you are better than me.
