Symantec Intrusion Prevention problems

I have multiple users, using both XP and 7, who are having issues with the Symantec Intrustion Prevention add-on.  After browsing with IE (only used 8 so far), they try to close it.  It appears to close, but they can no longer open anything from their desktop and when I go into Task manager there are still iexplore.exe instances running.  As soon as I end those processes the pc runs fine again.

I opened IE without add-ons and it worked normally.  It didn't start acting up again until I enabled the Symantec Intrusion Prevention add-on.  Any ides?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hello,

What version of SEP 12.1 are you using?

Are the Windows 7 machines carrying IE 8 on their machines?

Thanks for the quick response.  I am using SEP 12.1.671.4971.  And yes, the Windows 7 machines have IE 8.

Can you try by upgrading the browser just for testing?

I don't think so.  This user is adamant about not wanting IE 9.

    Hello,

Could you migrate to SEP 12.1 RU1 and check if that resolves it?

    Hello,

    Just a quick note:

    SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1 has been released.

However, incase if you decide to migrate to the Latest release of SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1, then you may have to migrate to the SEP 12.1 RU1 first.

Check this Article: FYI: SEP version 12.1.RU1 MP1 has been released.

    Hope that helps!!

Do I have to do anything special to get from my current version, 12.1.671.4971, to the newest version?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hello,

    Nothing Special.

What I meant to say above means - In case you want to Migrate to the Latest Version of SEP 12.1 RU1 MP1, then the Migration Plan would be -

    SEP 12.1.671 (your present version ) ---->>> SEP 12.1.1000 (RU1) ----->>> SEP 12.1.1100  (RU1 MP1)

    Hope that helps!!
