    Is your firewall blocking updates?

Symantec was under maintainance and it may be the reason this error.

Try to update it again and confirm about error.

I highly doubt Symantec liveupdate was down since so many folks would be affected and this would be unaaceptable. You can confirm with them.

Delete all the contents inside downloads folder then try this

To overcome this issue, change the timeout setting for LiveUpdate to extend the session period.

    1. As per OS, browse to

    Windows 2003: Default location is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Liveupdate
Windows 2008: Default location is C:\Programdata\Symantec\Liveupdate.

    2. Open Settings.Liveupdate, find

    PREFERENCES\INTERNET_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=45
    PREFERENCES\INTERNET_READ_DATA_TIMEOUT=45

Change the default setting of 45 to a larger number, for example 300.

    3. Save Settings.Liveupdate.

    4. Run LiveUpdate to verify success.

Are you running SEP 12.1.* client?  Or is this a SEPM issue?

If it's a client, then there is no full LiveUpdate component anymore.  It was swapped out for the LiveUpdate engine in 12.1, the logs for this are called log.lue and this is located in the lcoations described in the below article:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168602

Also, can you confirm the full version of the client, and how it is meant to update (via SEPM/Symantec/LUA/3rd Party options/etc).
