  • 1.  Symantec Liveupdate via Proxy

    Posted Jan 03, 2011 08:53 AM

    Hi,

My SEPM will access the internet exclusively to receive the updates from symantec.liveupdate.com:80,

However I need to set a rule to limit the connection to the IP addresses of that URL, is there a restriction on Symantec Liveupdate Server to be accessed via static range of IPs configured on the proxy not by the URL ?

    Thanks

"I need to set a rule to limit the connection to the IP addresses of that URL"...can you explain this in a bit detail.

"Is there a restriction on Symantec Liveupdate Server to be accessed"..No

Symantec does not uses its servers for definition distribution it does by by AKAMAI so for ever location IP address will differ and they will be 5 to 10 IP addresses for every location so there is no fix IP addresses by AKAMAI you have to go by URL

    Hi Hafiz,

Vikram is 100% correct.  Use of static IP addresses to access Symantec LiveUpdate content is not supported or recommended.  Here is Symantec's article on the subject:

Can LiveUpdate be configured to use static IP addresses? (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH97397)

Please let the forum community know if this answers / solves your question or if there is anything else that we can assist with!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

I meant that the internet access for SEPM will be limited only to the static IPs of Symantec Liveupate servers.
