Symantec mail security 4 MS Exch - OWA issues

Created: 30 Jul 2012 | 5 comments

Hello All,

I installed Symantec Mail Security 6.5 for Ms Exch 2010 and i noticed after the installation , Outlook Web Access does not work from the outside anymore , but you can still access it from the internal network.

Also I want to know the standard rules to be configured after installing symantec mail security on exch server 2010.

I need help on this as soon as possible please.

Thank you .

Run an Exchange best practice analyzer report:

Insure the latest rollup has been installed for Exchange.

Or are there multiple machines with Exchange?  If there are multiple machines, what are they and their roles?  Where is SMSMSE installed?

Are there any events in the Windows Application Event log?

Does the behavior changes if you stop the following SMSMSE services:

Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Symantec Mail Security Utility Service

Currently there are no known issues that would cause this behavior.

Is this a single server Exchange environment?

Hello Ben,

Yes it is a single server exchange environment with the mailbox role, hub ttransport and CAS installed on a single box .

SMSMSE is installed on the boc with the excahnge server with those 3 roles mentioned above

the behaviouer changed after i stopeed the services and completed removed all info written in the registry after installing SMSMSE according to symantec standard of uninstalling it .After i uninnstalled and cleaned everything , OWA started working fine .

Have you tried rebooting the server since the install of the SMSMSE 6.5.7?  It is possible that the default website is stopped and may be the cause of OWA being inaccessiblea(after installing the SMSMSE that is).

You may want to consider putting the SMSMSE back on and verifying that the default website is started, or opening a support ticket to work with a TSE to resolve the issue.
