  • 1.  Symantec Management Agent Crashing after being added to Domain

    Hello! Here is my situation:

    I recently had a PC have a hard drive issues. It didn't crash, but was making grinding noises, and was still usable. Instead of replacing the hard drive, I just replaced the PC (it's easier that way for my situation). I imaged a new PC and named it with the previous PC's name with a t at the end. For example PC1 was the original name, the newly imaged PC was named PC1t. I addedd PC1t to the domain until I was able to remove PC1 from the domain. Once PC1 was removed and DNS (A) entries were cleared, I removed PC1t from the domain and renamed it PC1. Once PC1 (the newly imaged and newly renamed PC1) was added back to the domain, I could see it in Altiris Console. I then attempted to push several jobs to it, but they all almost instantly failed. I decided to check out to see if the client was registered, which it was. However, when I right clicked the Icon in the system tray and selected "Symantec Management Agent" it brought me to the "Softwarwe Delivery" tab. This is where the problem happens. It says in the Policy column Windows System Assessment Scan and status says "Running". However, that is all the further I get, because The Agent force closes on me, and is removed from the system tray. Here are the steps I have taken so far:

     

    > I deleted it from Altiris console again and rebooted the system.

    > I started the Agent in Diagnostics mode by doing the reg svr command.

    > I have rebooted the machine several times.

    > I have done ipconfig /registerdns several times as well. I would like to note that I can ping by host name, and it resolves properly.

    At this point, I can't find anything relating to this issue on pretty much every forum I've looked at. I was wondering if someone here had any ideas? I would like to also note, that I am not the Admin for Altiris so I don't have the credentials to access anything . Please let me know if you have any ideas.

    I'd either use the Remote Altiris Agent Diagnostics (RAAD) tool to look at the agent log files or just do an aexagentutil /clean and reinstall the agent.
