I need to migrate Symantec from one server to another. I would prefer not to use the replication option as I will then not be able to use replication again once I switch the original server off.

If I use the Sylink option do I migrate all my policies including scan schedules etc or does it just activate communication settings to allow SEPM to speak to clients?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your responses guys. Unfortunately all those articles tell you is that you can use sylink they don't actually tell you how to do it or if you keep all your settings.

I could do with a step by step and some guidelines on what will get tranferred over. Does anyone know where I can get these?

Does both SEPM version are same ?

if yes you can follow disaster recovery process, that process take all previous sepm settings.

Thank you James. I am aware of the DR method. As I mentioned before I could use that method but I will loose the ability to use replication if I need it in the future. I would prefer not to use the DR method but it seems to be the most likely option as the sylink option is not very well documented.

Thanks James. The same link has been posted a few times now. It didn't help the first few times either.

It just tells me I can use sylink but no instructions on how to do it or what settings are transferred over.

I think I will just use the disaster recovery method as no one seems to be able to answer my question.

    Thanks for the help guys!

You can push a new sylink to clients that need it following this TN:

Thank you for the link Brian. That was quite useful. I have decided to go down the route of installing using a DR file. When I download the installers, there are three files.

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.5_Part1_Installation_EN.exe

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.5_Part2_Tools_EN.exe

    And

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.5_SEPM_EN.exe

Which files do I need to install onto the new server?

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.5_Part1_Installation_EN.exe contains everything.

Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.5_SEPM_EN.exe contains the SEPM only install.

    Hi Brian,

Thank you very much for you response.

How do you mean everything? What is in the part 1 install that is not in the SEPM install?

Individual client installs (Windows, Linux, Mac), and documentation and tools.

See Chetan articles and upgrade process

The primary download is distributed into two installation files: Part1_Installation and Part 2_Tools. Please download and extract both files before continuing with the software setup.
