Symantec Mobile Management Administration

Hi All, just need help with seting up Administration for or within MDM, not just for the Management Console, but in general.  My implementation includes various Departments, thus I need various "Administrators", and all need to be able to manage all aspects of iPhones and iPads.

For example, when you goto Manage>Mobile>Devices, you are taken to the Default View which takes you to the Default>AllResources>Asset>NetworkResource>Mobile and you see all Mobile devices, this creates a problem for each of my Administrators and i would like to change the Default View to a different Organizational View which I have already created and which is populated with all of devices for each Department.  I also want for each Administrator to have rights in this View.  I do not want my Administrators to see everybody's mobile devices.

Any ideas?

Create a new Organizational View

Create Organizational Groups within that view

Assign all mobile devices to the appropriate Organizational Group (e.g. MN, ND, WI)

Clone the security role one time for each administrator

Open Security Role Manager Console for each security role, select Resources, edit, uncheck Default > All Resources > Asset > Network Resource > Mobile, then expand Custom Organizational View > MN and check the box for MN.  Repeat for each group (e.g. ND, WI).

Add the appropriate accounts to the roles.

Log in to the Symantec Management Console as the role and test access.  You should only see resources in the custom Organizational Group (e.g. MN), not all resources.

mclemson, I will give it a try today and will reply back with results.  Sounds very solid, and I have started doing that, but using the default view, I did not know you could create a new View.

Thanks mclemson.

Hi mclemson, I followed your steps and eventhough it was a bit tricky as the Menus/Options are different, I was able to setup the Administration Model I needed, thanks to your reply.

Thanks!
