  • 1.  Symantec Protection for Sharepoint - Recommended Host AV exclusions

    Posted May 11, 2010 01:13 AM
    Hi All,

I am currently working on the design for deployment of SPFS. Protection of the host server itself is being performed using the SEP product.

The Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers Implementation Guide  on page 32 makes the following recommendations for host Anti-Virus exclusions:
    • <Installdir>\Program Files\Symantec\SharePoint\Quarantine\
    • <Installdir>\temp\

The first one (Quarantine) is fine and normal. However the second one is more of a problem. If I install the product to the C drive I’ll then have to exclude all AV checking of C:\temp\, which I’d rather not.

So my question is: Is it possible to change the location of the <Installdir>\temp directory?

    Cheers

Symantecn Endpoint Protection Client install directory can be changed by Adding a New Client installation Settings and Pointing the Temp and Installation Folder to a different Drive, below are the steps
    1. Login to the Symantecn Endpoint Protection Manager and Go to Admin Tab
    2. Click on Install Packages and then Click on Client Install Settings
    3. Click Add Client Install Settings and Give a name to the Setting
    4. Select option Install to a custom installation Folder and specify the Drive or the location where you want to install
    5. If you want to change the Log file path also, change that as well
    6. Create a package using this setting and install Symantecn Endpoint Protection Client, this will get install on the Drive or the location specified

    Hi,

Thank you for the response. Unfortunatly those configurations are for SEP (Symantec End Point Protection). I'm asking about Symantec Protection for Sharepoint, a completely different product which unfortunatly doesn't have its own forum.

    Regards

I haven't seen other files go into C:\Temp the default temp directory for the OS is %temp% which is
    <root>:\Documents and Settings\USerName\Local Settings\Temp

I am not sure however I haven't other than Symantec files in <installdir>\Temp

So it should be safe to exclude.
