  • 1.  Symantec Scan Engine Console won't load

    Hello,

    I recently installed a trial version on a RedHat VM, but am unable to get the console to load properly. When I go to https://localhost:8004 I get a page that says "To view Symantec Protection Engine administrator interface, please install Java Runtime Enviornment(JRE) 5.0 Update 6 or later."

    I was originally running the latest update of Java 7. I first replaced that with Java 6 update 39, then Java 5 update 14, but had the same issue both times. Finally, I uninstalled the scan engine, removed all versions of java, reinstalled the latest update of Java 7, and then reinstalled the scan engine. Installation went smoothly and the engine is definitely running, but I when I try to load the console I get the same "please install JRE 5" message.

    I'm at a complete loss. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

    Are you also attempting to load the console from the RedHat system? As the java plugins may not be registered with the browser.
