the software? do you have the serial number? if yes use https://fileconnect.symantec.com and use the serial number to download.

I do not have a new serial number to 4.8

This doc should not have been public.

SSIM 4.8 is not yet released. Soon but not yet. (and no I can't give a date :) )

Never mind, i think it is on FileConnect now.

GA release date is the 5th of November at the moment

I guess there's no upgrade path as it's essentially a new OS?

Handy that you can now use it as an LCP as well, not unexpected but it will keep a couple of my customers happy.

Mike,

I was expecting this released capability at some point having been in MSS and wanting that support.

Here at T it will also come in useful with a converged solution. Didn't get the release notes so not seen all the differences.

ooooh, that'll be a change to the design docs then, good luck with that at T :-)  I haven't got hold of the migration docs yet but reading between the lines it looks like a clean install followed by an import of the config extracted by the migration tool.  Think we might be waiting for 4.8.1

Could do with a catch up with you at some point, Mike K has my contact details.

According to this article there's a migration utility, but I can't fond any docs yet, maybe on fileconnect when 4.8 is released: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH197022

Hi Mike, the utility is not reading yet, as Olaf pointed out the GA target date is for 5th november.

(basically you can install a clean new setup but not yet migrate from 4.7 to 4.8)

Laurent,

Is the GA 5th Nov slipping till next week Vision or later ? Still not available on fileconnect. I have a need to use the Cisco ACS Syslog Collector (depends on new event agent) and also the log feed split to send data to MSS as well as SSIM from firewalls rather than implement a separate LCP and dual log feed.

Thanks, Gareth Rhys (ex Sym MSS)

NOTE TO ALL

The commentary in the released SSIM v4.8 documentation about MSS support for log forwarding to MSS (feature in release notes) is only relevant where the SSIM 4.8 is operated by Symantec MSS (when it is LCP2). There is currently no statement about supported operability between SSIM v4.8 customer owned and the MSS instance.

Yeh, we raised that at WTS, not surprised it's cropped up here too.

Now if only the licensing portal supported upgrading the SSIM licenses I could get somewhere - the upgrade notification came through but it just upgrades the GIN license, not the SSIM one, call to customer support tomorrow.

4.8 isn't available on fileconnect yet so no clean install available, never mind the migration. Looks like some extra work for us though doing upgrades.

4.8 is available on fileconnect!!

Yup got it, I'm going to be installing tomorrow and testing the migration plan, got a new install in the next few weeks so would make sense to go straight to 4.8 if it all works.

Who needs 32 bit onbox collectors anyway :-)

Is there going to be a migration from 4.7.4 in the next release?

Mike Buckley's picture

There is a migration plan/guide, I don't think there can be an in-place upgrade without rebuilding as it's an OS change. I can't see that changing from what I know of the roadmap.

Anybody tested it yet?
