    where does SEP store the updates getting either from the server or from the internet.?

     First it goes here
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads

    then once it is processed it goes here
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs
