Symbolic Links for Jobs

Hello,

This is more of a feature request, but I was wondering if anyone else out there had a desire to do this, or had a suggestion/work around that might work just as well.

I would like to see the ability to creat symbolic links to jobs. The idea being that there is one group, lets call it "Software", that has all my software install jobs within it. I then want to be able to create a second group called "Accounting" and have the ability to link all the software that Accounting needs to that group. Then create a thrid group called "Research" and then again link all the software that Research needs to that group. I could then just drag a computer from account to that group, and it would run the necessary jobs for that computer.

I know there is the ability to create a job and then once that job completes, have it schedule and run another job, however, this does not help should I create a job called "Installer 2.1" and then create a job called "Installer 2.2." I would then have to go into the Master job and make that change, rather than just dropping and dragging a symbolic link to the group.

This helps with install jobs that are used by multiple but not all departments. Let me know your thoughts and/or opinions. Thanks!

Is this thread helpful?

This was recently discussed a week or two ago:

Is Brandon's solution helpful in that thread?

Hey Nathan

You want to be able to just create a job once and then have it linked everywhere else it sounds like so that you don't have to update it a gajillion times.  I feel ya, that's the boat we were in.  We followed this guide and transitioned to all shortcut jobs so that we don't have to do that anymore.

Just create shortcuts in each folder for Research, Accounting, etc and that way when you have to update the main package or task, it will automatically be updated.  Then just drag and drop the folder onto the computer group.
