I am not sure why sysprep isn't working or if something isn't correct, but I will start from the beginning and see if anyone can assist me.

Our server was upgraded from 7.1 to 7.5 within the last two weeks or so.  After the upgrade, it appears we can't capture or deploy an image.  I am not sure why that is.

I ended up trying to deploy an image, but I was getting a bunch of errors about the GUID being wrong or something, so I figured perhaps the upgrade messed things up with the image.  I then decided to capture an image.  I created a new job from scratch and ran the job against a PC.  The PC got the task and started to seem like it was going to sysprep.  When I went to check the computer after 30 minutes or so, there were no log files at all or any files in the sysprep folder or panther folder.  The sysprep.exe is there and the PC gets the unattend.xml file and the date is correct, but nothing else appears to be happening.  I see there is a log that is under the root of C:\ and it relates to the boot, I guess, but sysprep doesn't seem to be working.  Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening?

    I am running Windows 7 ENT SP1 (x64).

To be honest...I couldn't tell you.  I didn't do the upgrade.  I am just a contractor that helps out.  I wouldn't be suprised if something was missed.

After trying to push a plug-in, I see it's pointing to the wrong location as well...like files are missing or something for the PEInstall.

    Can you do this first..

The Deployment share is not re-created with Deployment Site Server Components install. Custom scripts mayrequire changes,or the share will need to be created manually. The share requires Full control by the Altirisapplication ID and read from the everyone group. Custom scripts that are dependent on 7.1 Deployment folderpaths and shares will need to be reviewed and edited to reflect the new 7.5 paths.

    o

    Example:

Path to preboot source in 7.1:

    %AGENTPATH%\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\bootwiz\oem\DS\winpe2\x86\Base\

    New Path in 7.5:

    %AGENTPATH%\Agents\Deployment\SBS\Bootwiz\{374E1C49-4F58-4F5C-8D51-07A30F0D44AD}\cache\bootwiz\oem\DS\winpe\x86\Base\

Then try to enable the uninstall plug-in policy of your OS deployment then after the client uninstall the plug-in of your client, enable the install deployment plug-in.

    Regards,

    JM

if sysprep SEEMS to run but does not, you're probably out of REARM count.  A count of 1 or 0 is too low and you'll have to rebuild the source system from scratch.  Don't rebuild.

Support now knows how to troubleshoot almost all of the problems you have capturing.  I know I do anyway and I used to be there and documented most of it in the KB already (have you looked at the recommended reading list?)

So do this first.  1) focus on one thing at a time.  2) if you can't get Sysprep to run build a new image from scratch because this task is NOT a commonly failing task.  It should work UNLESS the rearm count is off.  3) once you get Sysprep running and reboot into automation, try the capture OR deploy.  Whichever you're doing, if it fails, capture the logs - all of them - get them on the server.  Then look at the DSTasks log - there's a KB on  how to look at it AND how to find where it's failing in the Recommended Reading list (I wrote it so I know it's there).  If you can't find it, attach it here and we'll find it.

We'll help you.  MOST likely you don't need to uninstall, or rebuild or whatever - you just need to find the one missing file, or one missing security thing or...  so be diligent, find the exact error, and you'll get a faster answer then by shooting in the dark.

    Keep us posted!

Okay.  I will try and build a PC from scratch with the basics and see if I can capture it that way.

I normally set in the registry per the KB's to set the SkipRearm to 1 and haven't had issues until recently.

I will be building the PC tonight, so I will update you late tonight (EST)
