    Hi all,

I am new to ghost console...I have some quick questions..Please don't say read the manual...

    I already have !!

I have a master PC (XP)  that I wish to duplicate to clones and change sid and PC name of the clones using sysprep

Do I always have to run sysprep on master PC before creating the image?

Can I not create image from master (without making anychanges to it) and then apply sysprep config to a restore task ?

I know it's probably a stupid question but is it as it says , sysprep is for preparing the system you are looking to copy ?

Also, whats the deal with windows 7 and sysprep (changing sids).

Ghost Cosole says sysprep is not required for windows 7 .

so how do I change sid/pc name for windows 7 clones ?

    Thx,

    Ray..

The only tool that you could use to change SID on Win 7 is Sysprep. There are two options for you ,

1.Use Ghost console to create Sysprep image (No sysprep option available under restore task)

2.Create and restore a normal image and then run Sysprep manually on the client.

The second option would consume time.If you are using Ghost Console to run Sysprep task, make sure you fill in all the fields under the sysprep template.

Before creating an image with Sysprep , create a base image without Sysprep which could be a backup for the source machine.

Also, be aware that Sysprep removes any product key information, so you have to enter a product key and activate the product after deployment. The intended solution for this in a corporate environment is to use one or more KMS servers to hand out product keys automatically.

Hiya guys and thx for the reply.

So I take a backup of master pc (windows 7) before running sysprep on it and taking an image..?

I have 50 PC's with the same volume license key, then another 50 PC's with a different volume license.

Do I Image the master PC, clone to 50 PC's using first product key, then clone to next 50 using 2nd volume license...

Will I have to manually activate all 100 PC's with a call(s) to microsoft ?

Thx in advance for any response

Are you using volume MAK keys?   In that case activation will work fine once the machine is online.

If using KMS servers then there is no activation step as the licenses are handed out on demand from a pool.
