I have PGP Desktop 9.9 installed with WDE on the hard drive.

I recently acquired a USD drive (Freecom XXS) and started the WDE process. As it was due to take around 15 hours, about half way through, I paused the process and unplugged the drive, before shutting down the PC.

When I restarted the PC, I got a BSOD as soon as I plugged the drive back in with PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA in PGPwded.sys

I have plugged the drive into another PC (without PGP installed) and reformatted the drive but I still get the problem. The drive works fine whilst not encrypted on the other machine.

Any suggestions as to how this may be resolved?

    Thanks

    PK

You may want to look at the disk specs and see if it has a 4096 bit sector size.  If so, the problem is because PGP currently only supports the standard 512 sector size.  If this is the problem, it sounds like PGP will soon release a patch/update to resolve this problem, and you may want to take a look at this thread.

    Thanks for the suggestion Tom.

The disk is NTFS with a sector size was 4096 bytes (not bits).

Are you suggesting that I should reformat to FAT with a sector size of 512 bytes?

    Thanks

Sorry about the bits versus bytes - when I see 4096, I automatically am thinking of key size.

I've not heard of the reformat being tried, so don't know if this would help.  NTFS itself is not a problem.

OK, I'll try it out and see if it makes any difference.

    Thanks

    I've solved the problem.

It appears that there are some conflicts between Freecom drives using TurboUSB and WDE.

I deleted the fnetthjm.sys file from the drivers directory and it allowed me to connect the drive. Then I was able to uninstall and reinstall the device correctly, leaving Turbo USB off.

Now all I've got to do is get WDE to resume! But that's a different problem.
