System Recovery for Windows 7 and PGPWDE
Created: 28 Jan 2013 | 3 comments
PGP is installed on a Windows 7 system, 64bit. When I boot the machine, the system recovery options come up. The HD is accessible when installing as a secondary on another laptop... Is there a way to tunnel through the encryption to repair the master boot record??

I wouldn't mess with the MBR of an encrypted disk - it can cause you to lose access to any of the data on the disk. If you can access the disk from another computer with PGP installed on it, you may be able to decrypt it from that computer. If not, the WDE Recovery CD may be able to do the decryption for you.

Thanks Tom but theres very little data on this drive. I would rather take a chance on repair the MBR if I can....if you could step me through repairing the MBR of this PGP drive it would greatly be appreciated....
The closest personal experience I've had with your intent is years ago when WDE was in beta. I restored a disk image made prior to WDE encryption of the disk, The disk would then not boot, until I used a Windows XP install CD to rebuild the MBR.
