I have an older system running SEP 11.0.7 (with MP2 installed) and was considering upgrading to MP3.  However, at the time of the original installation, I believe I did not see a specific CPU speed system requirement for SEP 11.x.  So, I installed the software and am having no problems.  This system is a P3, 933 MHz Intel chip...yes older.  ;) 

Even today, I still see Symantec documentation not specifying a specific CPU speed system requirement, but, I have seen other Symantec documents specifying, at least, a 1.0 Ghz CPU.  Is this different than the CPU hardware system requirement for 11.0.7 (with MP2 or earlier) installations?  I wanted to be certain that before I updated my 11.0.7 MP2 installation with 11.0.7 MP3, I was not introducing a piece of software that needed a beefier CPU than my 11.0.7 MP2 installation.

For a simple setup <1GHZ is also fine but if you have large number of clients and complicated settings. The DB activity of SEPM can take up more CPU.

For 32 bit OS as per the document its 1GHZ for all P3 systems and 64 bit OS 2GHZ

The following processor speeds are supported:

• 2 GHz for Small Business Server 2008 Premium Edition
• 2.5 GHz for Essential Business Server 2008 Premium Edition

1 GHz on x64 works only with the following processors:

• Intel Xeon with Intel EM64T support
• Intel Pentium IV with Intel EM64T support
• AMD 64-bit Opteron
• AMD 64-bit Athlon

If you have largenumber of clients say > 100 I would recommend to have a Higher CPU.

Thanks for the very quick responses.  Specifically, in this situation, I am only concerned with upgrading a single SEP 11.0.7 MP2 client to SEP 11.0.7 MP3.  I am not running an SEP server.  I have looked at the documents you have indicated.  It appears that 1.0 GHz seems to be the "settled" CPU clock speed; however, my 933 MHz system, running 11.0.7 MP2 would probably handle the update to 11.0.7 MP3, if Symantec has not mandated any hardware requirement changes, for a single client installation, upgrading from 11.0.7 MP2 to 11.0.7 MP3.  So, what I am asking is if anyone had noticed if Symantec had changed their CPU hardware requirements, specifically, moving a single client from 11.0.7 MP2 to 11.0.7 MP3, which should be a simple update, since MP3 is only a maintenance patch.

It appears that hardware requirements for 12.1.2 have also not changed from 11.x, with the exception that 12.1.2 may need a larger hard drive space, for its operation.

For a client pc, upgrade should work perfectly fine.

For servers better to be on 1GHZ processor
