System State Backup very, very slow

I just did a new install of BE 2010 Small Business Edition on a brand new SBS 2011 server.   File backups, Exchange backups, etc work fine.  But the System State backup takes forever.

It seems to stall with a status of:  "Updating Catalogs"

The current directory is: "Windows Managemnet Instrumentation"

Current file is "WMI"

The byte count (around 20GB) doesn't seem to change.

I am backing up to a HP RDX

Anyone have a solution?

Hi,

Check the Known Issues TN below for further information:

http://www.symantec.com/connect/issue/performance-issues-maybe-observed-when-backing-system-state-windows-2008-server

Symantec is aware of this...just vote it up!

Thanks!

Actually, it was BE 2012, not BE 2010 that I installed.

...just edit your original post as you state you did a clean installation of BE 2010.

Seems that there might still be a problem with BE 2012, so check the Known Issues section for this.

What is the speed that you get if you use the built-in Windows backup utility?

If any AV is installed and you disable it, does your speed increase?

If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.

I just ran a successful System State backup to a B2D folder on the server instead of using the RDX.  For now, I am going to continue using the B2D folder, backing up the volume with the B2D folder to the RDX.

Is there a way to to schedule a B2D2RDX?

Yes you can add a stage to your existing job and duplicate to RDX

I added a stage to duplicate the System State backup to the RDX.   Works fine.
