  • 1.  To target operating system is failed

    Posted May 01, 2007 04:50 PM

    Dear

I was working on the GSS the first two days of this week.  I used one machine as console server, one machine as model machine and five machines as client machines. I cloned the entire client machine with out problem, after cloning the machines there was configuration steps in the event log of deployment image. This step completed with out problem but there is another step next to this step “To target operating system” and this last step failed. On the detail of this event I saw the following message.

    “Client timed out”

Then I checked all the clients. The clients were cloned successfully.

I really would like to know why this last step is failed and the solution for this problem.

I appreciate if any body would like to say some thing.

    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,

This usually indicates that the client did not contacted to the server after completing the cloning operation. Did you have the correct client install in the image? (meaning did you created the image after installing the client for the specific server). Could you check the program files\Symantec\Ghost\ngctw32.log file and see what entries it has?

    Hi

    Thanks for your immediate response.

Did you have the correct client install in the image? (meaning did you created the image after installing the client for the specific server).

Yes I had the correct client install in the Image. I created the image installing the client for the specific server.

Could you check the program files\Symantec\Ghost\ngctw32.log file and see what entries it has?

    Yes

I checked but there is no ngctw32.log file inside program files\Symantec\Ghost.

    Hi,

I was assuming you are using GSS 2.0, is that correct?

If it is 2.0 and there is no log file, it indicates that the client service is not started or registered.

Could you check in the services if there is 'Symantec Ghost Client Agent' and it is running?

By any chance, this client is a 64bit client? In which case they are under 'Program files (x86)' folder instead of program files folder.

Do you have ngctw32.exe file in this folder? If not are there any files with the name 'ngctw32'?

    Hi

I checked and found  ngctw32.log file inside program files\Symantec\Ghost. from the client machines.
I saw what entries it has. it is as shown below.

This is basically a log of the activities of the client. You can see the entries at the beginning of the file are from your model computer. They were in the image.

    1:22:58 PM 10.10.22.211:1346 sending status to  10.10.43.0:1347
    1:23:18 PM 10.10.22.211:1346 lost contact with  10.10.43.0:1347
1:23:28 PM 10.10.22.211:1346 polling for bound server cslab113-16

This indicates that the communication is lost at 1:23 pm suddenly. Was there any reason for that to happen? Something like a disruption to network or something?

Is this machine still disconnected in the Console? Could you see if you can ping the Console machine from the client? Do you find all the clients are disconnected in the Console or only these clients?

    Not at all.

Is this machine still disconnected in the Console?
It is not only this machine all macinces that I use as client. As I wrote on my first email it is after completion of clone.

Could you see if you can ping the Console machine from the client?

    I can ping.

Do you find all the clients are disconnected in the Console or only these clients?

No all of them including this machine were not disconnected

    Hi,

---- No all of them including this machine were not disconnected

Do you mean still you can see these clients in the Console as connected? If you view the clients and select the detailed view, does it say 'Connected'?

If you run a configuration refresh task now, does it work? (There is nothing specific about this task, but it is the simplest task to run)

If that is the case, could you run the task again and see if it behaves the same?
