  • 1.  Task Details Error - NS 6.5

    Posted Jun 24, 2010 11:05 AM
When I try to add additional computers to a weekly task that we have had for awhile, I click on details of the task and get the popup window with errors as illustrated below and the log file spits out the info below.  I can recreate another task and the details window pops up just fine, but I would like to see this one because I have multiple computers assigned to this task and building a new task will not help me if I don't know all the computers currently assigned.  Any thoughts?

The log files spit this out:

    Log File Name: D:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Logs\a.log

This known issue (and fix) seems to apply, but not sure if it matches your version.  I recommend you try the solution here:
    https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=43576&p=1

Does this solve the problem you're experiencing?

This isn't our problem.  As mentioned, we can create a NEW task and the new one illustrates just fine.  I did refer to the KB article and English is already the default.  Thanks for trying...any other thoughts out there?

I haven't seen this before.  Not that reboots are magical, but.. it might be worth a try.

I'd try fully uninstalling then re-installting Task Server. It's possible the solution corrupted, since it's unable to find the DLL ( IIS page) displayed when using the Task Server item picker.

The 'object reference' error usually indicates a corrupted\missing  task or table in the database. I'm wondering if it could be a timeout based on the size or amount of data in the table. An example of my ramblings would be the agent push error. The trick is to find out what table is causing the issue.

The only other thing to think of would be a repair of the task management product\msi.

I have seen corrupt tasks occur (with similar error messages, I believe) if someone deletes a computer from the NS Console without first removing it from a task. We perform numerous "reboot and check logs" server task on a scheduled basis. We learned the hard way to establish a process to remove replaced servers from tasks before deleting them from the console --repeatedly setting up the same task is no fun.
