  • 1.  task fails because partition not active?

    Posted Jul 07, 2011 07:00 AM

    Hi All,

I have a 500GB hard drive, and it has 5 partitions on it,
    Partition 1 NTFS Windows System
    Partition 2 NTFS Windows Restore
    Partution 3 Linux (Active/boot)
Partition 4 /5 Ext, and Log for Linux

(I don't do the Linux installations, Only the Windows, and because we use PXE to select whish OS students want, ie Winows or Linux, it uses a partition which is the active one)

So I have the image on the Partition 2 (known as the E: restore drive)
I run a task from the console, to reimage Partition 1 (known as the C: system drive) from the image on E:

Lot quicker than doing a unicast/multicast session.

Anyway, send image task: (image located on local machine) E: to C:

    Local Path Evaluation: Success
    Updating PreOS files: Success
    Create machine account: Success
    Prepare configuration: Success
    To Virtual Partition: Success
    Clone: Success
    Configuration: Failed
    Configuratil Error File contains:

    "Error finding Windows installation location.
    After lookup:"

Is this because the Windows system partition isn't active?
and if so, how can I resolve this, so the linux pxe partition can stay active... unless I really need the windows partition to be active for all this to work properly.

I even tried a configuration task, and that does the same.

In the past the windows parition was active all the time, and didnt have any problems, but now its not active, so any help please.

    many thanks

    Pete

If this is XP you are imaging, check that the boot.ini file is correctly configured for your needs after restoring the image.

Well, actually, we have changed the way it works, again, Windows Partition is active again and everything works, so the linux partition didnt need to be active afterall.

    Thanks though.

    p.s it was a windows 7 image.

Windows 7 by default installs 2 partitions, one of them hidden, so you may have more than you think....
