Hello everyone,

Can anyone help me understand how exactly the 'Task Server Task' works in NS environment?

I have gone through knowledgebase article 45176. It states that:
"Task server task runs on a Task Server. A task server task is similar to a client task in that it follows the same rules as a client task and it is assigned to computers and devices. The Task Server runs the task server task on each assigned computer and device. A task server task does not require an Altiris Agent to run. A task server task can be put in either a server job or a client."

Does it mean that task server task can be executed on unmanaged computers?

Do we have any altiris/symantec solution utlizing this functionality?

Any flow diagram or reference to some article will be a great help.

Thanks in advance,

Sourabh

What version are you using

Some of the nuances in the this article hint at NS7, not NS6.

For example, your first question, the answer is yes in NS7, but not in NS6.

The task server functionality is core to NS7, although only Client Managment Suite is out.

In NS6, Task Server did work with some solutions, and an add-on pack a little over a year ago increased the number of solutions it worked with.

All the documentation can be found here.

Thanks Jim...

I'm using NS 7...

I have gone through the articles you mentioned and it really helps to understand the 'Task Server' functionality as a whole.

But I'm specifically interested to know more about 'Task server task' which behaves slightly different from the regular client tasks.

Does it include any remote scripting stuff?
