Task Server will not install
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 4 comments
We are currently running Dell Client Manager Standard 3.0.1238 on Altiris Notification Server™ Version 7.0 at our central office. I am trying to install a package and task server at each of our 6 school buildings with about 200-300 computers each. I am having no issue installing the Package Service but the NS will not let me push the Task Service, the option is greyed out. The Servers in each of the buildings are running Windows Server 2008. So my questions is, is the Task Service not compatibe with the OS I am using or do I just not have my servers configured correctly?
Thanks,

I believe it's not compatible
The NS components are restricted to Windows 2003 at this time. As some other threads have mentioned, this may be corrected in the next service pack release, but that has not been confirmed.

Confirmation
Does any one have confirmation of this? one way or the other I need a docuement to show that they are or are not compatable
I'm running 7.0sp2 same problem
The Release Notes from KB37648
which is the version 7.0 release (the one I referred to above) was limited to package services only on site servers. See AKB37648.
Altiris KB46035, which are the release notes for SP2 (the latest service pack) indicates that the "The minimum system requirements for Symantec Management Platform 7.0 SP1 are the same as those for Symantec Management Platform 7.0."
I don't know if the SP1 is just a typo or not, however reading the whole article doesn't mention any difference.

Do you have a IIS
Do you have a IIS installed?
A Taskserver need a IIS.
Without IIS it is not possible to install a Taskserver.
