  • 1.  Test restore to new hard drive.

I would like to perform the "Test Restore to New Hard Drive" described on page 6 of the Radified Guide to Norton Ghost. It reads:

"Here's how it works: you create the image of your 1st hard drive (your system drive) onto your 2nd hard drive. Then, shutdown your system & remove the 1st, or simply disconnect the data cable.

Install the 3rd hard drive in place of the 1st (same jumper configuration, partitions, etc.) and *restore* the image (stored on your 2nd drive) to the newly-installed 3rd drive. Fire up your system & boot from your new (3rd) drive. If all goes well, you will sleep better knowing you can actually restore your system should the need arise."

I've created the image of the 1st drive on a 2nd drive with Norton Ghost 12.0. My question is, if I remove the 1st hard drive (C) and replace it with the new one, how will the computer be able to boot up? Isn't the operating system (Windows XP) on the the 1st hard drive? Is there a procedure I will need to know to boot up in this situation?

    Thanks for any help.

I need to know some things...

    What brand is your computer?
    Which OS?
In Disk Management, how many partitions are on the first HD? Is the OS in the first partition?
Can you boot from the Ghost 12 recovery CD and enter the Recovery Environment?

This is wrong forum. This forum is for users of Classic Ghost. Norton Ghost (consumer) is not real Ghost. It is a backup product based on Backup Exec System recovery product line. You have much better chance of your question answered there.

     actually iam new to connect
    anyways
Computer mother board is a Soyo P41 845PE Lite Socket 478 with Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz.

Operating system is Windows XP Pro with SP3.

I have never partitioned the 1st drive, so I guess that means it only has one partition, right?

I have never tried to boot from the Ghost 12 recovery CD.
