A client of mine has recently installed a Thecus NAS (which I understand has a cut down Linux as it's OS)to accomodate a sudden increase in data requirements (a new SQL server db) - they are running BE 12.5 but I can't push an agent out to the NAS. can anyone tell me how to attatch the NAS sucessfully to the BEWS media server - I've tried connecting to the share but I get login account permission errors.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

Pete

Thecus backup

i have the same issue here but what i did is to make use of the USB 2.0 or esata connection from the thecus box to the server rather than the network.
for my case i can throw data from the thecus with no problem but from thecus to Tape i got problem. on the backup selection list you can view the box but you cannont select the folder inside unless you install the agent which i think is impossible i also not sure wether there is a symantec agent for thecus you can install. anyway just use the usb or sata and attach to your server.

Server Specs: SBE 12.5 sp2 64Bit Win 2003 Server Ent Ed R2 Sp2 64 Bit DL380 G4 intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz (4cpu) 5056mb Ram 2gb LAN and 2gb Backup LAN (4 Physical NIC) lan Team TLB HP LTO3 1/8 Thecus NB5200 5TB NAS MSA30 1.8TB SCSI

No comment about the access

No comment about the access issue - but to backup any NAS device over share level access - you must make sure that the NAS device itself is not running NDMP. If Backup Exec detects NDMP it assumes that RAWS is installed and then has a failure when it does not get the correct response. Without NDMP on the NAS the media server drops to share level access using the remote agent on the media server to do the work.
