  • 1.  Is there any way to get a SEPM server to automatically find stand alone clients?

    Posted Sep 18, 2009 09:22 AM
For example, I have some users who were anxious to use SEP before the server was built, but now they do not adhere to the SEPM server, but I would prefer that they do. I am aware that the "find unmanaged clients" feature is available, but I would like to know if there is a way for SEPM to automatically find the stand alone clients our there.

    Thank you.

I build servers often, say I install it, and I want it to be found instead of pushing it or using Sylink.xml after a manual install? This can serve as an image for future servers.

    Unmanged Detector can help

When a client is set as an Unmanaged Detector, it locates unmanaged clients on its own network and reports them to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. An Unmanaged Detector cannot detect unmanaged clients on networks other than its own.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager uses several methods to locate unmanaged clients. It can still locate unmanaged clients if no Unmanaged Detectors are defined, but its results are more accurate if there is an Unmanaged Detector on each network.

But Unmanaged Detectors will also show you clients without SEP, Non Windows Systems and all your Printers,faxes,switches,routers...all your IP devices.
