Is there a way to change the Symantec Embedded database port and Tomcat port that are being used by SEP manager prior installing SEP manager?

If we use the Advanced option before installing the SEP Manager Database , we get an option to change the 8443 TCP Remote Java or web console and 9090 remote console port. But I do not find an opyion to change the 2638 TCP SEPM manager and 8005 TCP SEPM manager SemSvc.exe default ports prior installing SEP manager.

Hi, To change the 8005 port,

Hi,

To change the 8005 port, you need to open a file called server.xml in C:\prog files\symantec\sepm\tomcat\etc folder.

Search for 8005 and change it to 8006 or any other port.

To change the database port to something else that 2638, please follow the steps below:

Steps to reconfigure the embedded database for use a port other than 2638:

  1. Click on Start> Run
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Click Ok
  4. Stop the "Symantec Endpoint protection Manager" Service.
  5. Stop the "Symantec Embedded Database" Service.
  6. Close the Services window
  7. Click on Start> Run>
  8. Type regedit
  9. Click Ok
  10. In “Registry Editor” look for the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\asanys_sem5\parameters

  11. Double-click on Parameter DWORD Value
  12. Change 2638 to 2639 (Advised) or any other port which you want to use.
  13. Close the "Registry Editor"
  14. Click on Start> run>
  15. Type services.msc
  16. Click Ok
  17. Start the "Symantec Embedded Database" Service.

Warning: Do not start the "Symantec Endpoint protection Manager" Service yet.

  18. Click on Start> Programs> Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager> Management Server Configuration Wizard
  19. Select Reconfigure the Management
  20. Click Next
  21. Change the Server port to 8440
(If you wish to reconfigure this port as well, if not, ignore this step and click Next)
  22. Change the database server port to 2639
  23. Enter the <password> (Password used for Replication)
  24. Click Next
Note: If any special character is used, the wizard will not allow the password, please see “Changing the database password to a non complex password” at
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008011823355248
  25. The wizard will take you to the final screen after re-synchronizing the application and the database is now ready to be used on the new port.

Best,
Aniket

We can change the embedded

We can change the embedded database port prior to installtion if it is being used by a diffrent application , but I don't think we can change the Tomact port 8005.
It has to be changed  manually after installtion

As far as I remember, If you

As far as I remember, If you have TCP 2638 already taken on a machine, SEPM install gives you an option to change the port otherwise the default is taken without throwing the configuration dialog box.

De facto when AV does something, it starts jumping up and down, waving its arms, and shouting "Hey!  I found a virus!  Look at me!  I'm soooo goooood!"
