  • 1.  Is there a way to only allow specific software releases to be seen by a security role?

By default when I have a support center person choose to install a one of piece of software they are presented with a list of all software releases.  Is there a way to set up a limited list that we want to give that role access to?

We have many applications that are globally assigned or require licensing that we do not want lower level techs or call center users to be able to install on workstations.

You'd need to have a higher level tech create Software Delivery Tasks or Policies first then group those tasks or Polices in Folders and permission those delivery Folders accordingly. I don't think you can split the Software Releases into Folders.

With compuerters, you can add them to organizational groups and configure access that way (e.g. resource scoping).  This won't work with software, as software resources are not currently scoped (it's a feature currently being investigated).  So, this will have to be accomplished through folder permissions.

So I will have to create tasks or policies ahead of time for the one off software, vs having techs use the option to install software from the computer resource page?

This is how we currently do it with our 6.x environment and have techs add pc's to collections, was looking at alternatives as we migrate to 7.

I think the short answer is Yes. Once you've gone to the trouble of importing the software, creating the command lines and detection rules using the Managed Policy Wizard isn't much extra effort.
