Virtual Secure Web Gateway

Just wondering when will SWG 5.0 Virtual edition be availalbe.

As this software is very important and being depandant on another hardware which is a case now with SWG 4.5 is not feasible for many users.

Also i dont know why symantec has taken so long even though Trend Micro already have a product similar to this one called InterScan Web Security Virtual Appliance for years.

We have all of our products with Symantec but if they do not release this one we might have to switch to Trend Micro

I read a posting back in september 2010: release by the end of the year (obviously not true...)

Discussions in the beta forum have stalled so I can not see any progress there.

For our customers the lack of WCCP support is a showstopper too.

This is a disgrace that none of the Symantec employees have yet replied to this query.

I have also posted this comment on symbeta forum and no body replied any thing for the last four days.

I also tested the beta version but it was very slow to run and had many issues so i stopped testing it as it was taking too much of time.

Now that it seems that Symantec has no competitive software with Trend Micro Internet scan web gateway virtual appliance we have to go with them.

Darul, You dodnt understand how product releases work.  There is a lot of corporate secrecy regarding soon to be released products, so that the competition doesnt get a leg up on them.

Contact your Symantes sales rep, sign an NDA, and then you can get information regarding release dates for products that are not out yet.  The information usually almost always cocmes from a Product Manager, and not from support (who have no clue), nor sales people (as they got it second hand to begin with).  

Product managers dictate the timeline, development and engineering build it, and if all goes well, the roadmap follows the timeline...  Then again, if you see any Symantec roadmap, the very first slide is a disclaimer that items are subject to change at anytime.

IMO, Symantec acquired MI5 to get this technology, and they are integrating it with DLP, and this takes time.  This was more of a priority than virtualizing the gateway, which is a smaller market than you think.  I see hundreds of accounts a month, most still use physical security devices, and few want or have a need to virtualize them.

Just for your information Virtual Market is growing very fast.

And infact this is a way to save cost, energy, space and evironment.

I spoke to the sales rep from symantec and according to him the timeline for release will be mid this year and appart from that he did not have any clue why it was delayed.

Sorry DLP integration is more important than virtualizing the SWG IMO.  

Sales reps have a general idea, but a product manager knows the real answer.  Of course you need to sign an NDA for access to him.

First and foremost, discussing a closed Beta and future product specifics should not happen in public forums. The confidentiality portion of the Symantec Beta License Agreement you agree to when participating in the beta covers this.

Second, my apologies for not replying to your post on SymBeta.  I have been out of the office.  I will reply to concerns about timeline there.

Third, I believe Virtual Edition is a very important feature for SWG in that very few competitors offer a virtual model.

Fourth, I agree on WCCP being important as well.  I'd like to hear from more customers and partners on that topic if any are on this forum.  Perhaps posting it as an IDEA would be helpful as well.
