Software Catalog is to not be launching properly on my workstation anymore.

I know it's a client issue, it works consistently on the NS server.

I have latest Java, IE 11, Silverlight and all of those tested as working. It loaded once for me this morning but not since.  Just sort of blank screen, see screenshot.

Tried clearing IE and Java cache.

Anyone else have any suggestions on what to try?  Not so excited about thought of reimaging my main workstation the week school starts.

    Hi Sally5432,

    1. Your NS URL is added in "Trusted Sites" within I.E security settings?

    2. Your domain name or NS URL is added in "Compatibility View" withing I.E settings?

    IE_Compatibility.jpg

    3. You are using Symantec Administrator Role Account or something another? Any useful information appears in Altiris Log on NS, when you're observing this empty page?

    Thanks,

    IP.

our whole internal domain company.com is part of 'local internet' which has lower security level than trusted sites.

I did try adding it domain to compatability mode and same thing.  No errors in Altiris Log.

I rebooted the server yesterday for something else (it was acting weird before then), but that was tried too.

When I open Software Catalog on another workstation that's been off for months, I was just prompted if I want to update silverlight.  Even though silverlight tested as working here - I wonder if Silverlight is the root of my problem.

I have no such problems with page content load:

    • SilverLight - 5.1.40728.0 using I.E 11 on Windows 2012 R2 with NS - Works fine
    • SilverLight - 5.1.40416.0 using I.E 11 on remote Windows 7 SP1 x64 - Works fine

If there is no useful information in Altiris log, then try to:

    1. I know that Chrome isn't supported as browser in 7.5 release, but try to open same page via Chrome just for clarification for SilverLight load page problems.

    2. Open I.E Developers tool (F12) for debug profiling this page load problem.

    3. Compare versions of SilverLight, where it works OK and where doesn't work.

    4. Or check information about SilverLight repair suggested by Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2608523?wa=wsignin1.0

    Thanks,

    IP.

    Hey Sally,

Has this worked in your environment with Internet Explorer 11 previously?

    Cheers!

When the laptop that has been off for weeks updated via patch (Java and windows updates, probably silverlight in the mix too), that one stopped working as well.  Guess I know it's an update that killed it.

    @MYITGuy Yes, it's always worked in IE11.

I removed java 8u60 and put Java 8u51 and software catalog working again.

Can someone confirm if it's working for them with 8u60?

There is a bug in 8u60 where HTML OBJECT tag doesn't fire java applets and we are supposed to use APPLET tag to make it work.  I haven't check Symantec code on this but it really looks like this bug.

We have the same problem with 8u60 here.  Had to roll back to 8u51.  Is this problem being investigated?  Any workarounds yet (apart from rolling back)?

Glad it's not just me.  The first tech I was assigned said he couldn't reproduce it.  Since then, it's been reassigned and I'm trying to have a call with them tomorrow morning.

I didn't get anywhere with support.  It seemed like I got a step further loading it if i set 'show applet  lifecycle exceptions' in Java advanced preferences, but I still couldn't import new software.

At this point, I asked Symantec to close the  case and I'm hoping the Oct 20th Java update fixes things.  If not I'll revisit with Symantec but I'm afraid if that's the case a HF will be necessary,  and I'm not even on 7.6 yet.

Installed Java 8 update 66 and was able to get in software catalog briefly but now I consistently can't, same issue as before, which makes it feel like a caching issue of some kind.  Clearing Java and IE cache didn't help, though.

If I uninstall java, the software catalog pops up immediately - but I'm prompted to install java if I want to import anything.

8u51 which consistently worked for me on all machines is now blocked by Java so I have to figure this out.  I'm going to put another ticket in.

@chrismcevoy72 - don't suppose you have a workaround by chance?

On phone with support it loaded once.  It didn't load several times so they saw the issue but very strange issue overall.

One of our other systems that uses Java has been acting up since 8u60 similarly (slow to load some items sometimes), so I wonder what's going on.

With the expiration of 8u51 I'm surprised if more people aren't seeing this.

Just FYI for anyone running into this support closed it saying to run the old version of Java.
