TouchDown

Late last year our business was planning to roll out TouchDown for our mobile email users.  We have maybe 80 users, 2/3rds on iOS and 1/3rd on Android. Some have two devices.  The project got delayed by an Exchange 2010 upgrade and now we're trying to get back to installing TouchDown.  

However, since the product was bought by Symantec I'm having a hard time getting replies.

I was told there was a way to bulk purchase licenses, and there was a discount when you buy ~20, but now I can't find any information on the subject, how to buy it, Sales and Support can't help.

We run in an Exchange 2010 server environment.

In basic terms, we want to:

• Buy ~80 TouchDown licenses.
• Deploy lincenses to about 80 users without having the user buy TD individually.
• Require a PIN to access TouchDown (via Exchange AS Policy).
• Ability to Remote Wipe TouchDown only (via Exchange Mobile Device Manager).
• Have ability to remove a license from a termed employee.
• Have ability to reassign a license to a new hire.

Is this even possible, or do I need to find a different product?

I'm very concerned about moving forward with a product that's unsupported but I want to give this one more chance.  It's a great product and it's a shame to see it dry up and go away.

@Dallas123, Thanks for writing in.. The products are still supported and actively developed on. However the sales process has changed since the acquisition. I believe what you would have to do would be to contact the mobility specialist/Symantec sales rep depending on your region. Are you having trouble locating them ? 

All of the above should be possible with both android and iOS licenses.

I've been emailing with Eileen McCann, I beleive she's in sales.  Below is her reply.  I bolded the reply comments from the "engineer" she received the comments from.  I still don't know what do to, even if I could find a way to buy 80 bulk licenses with the mystery SKU, how do I push them to the Android and iOS devices?  VPP only works with Apple apps.  Do I need a separate MDM system?  

It would be nice if someone who knows how all this works could spend 1/2 hour and explain it to me, because it sure isn't self-explanatory, not documented anywhere.

I did forward to my engineer, who found someone to forward the questions and he responded back last night with the following:

• How do we purchase 80+ licenses for deployment – There is a bulk TouchDown SKU
• How do we roll out those licenses to installed employees via a server - Licenses can be distributed via VPP. This can be found under Settings > App License Management. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO93852

• How do we manage the licenses, such as reissuing them when an employee leaves - Licenses distributed via this method (the one above) are recoverable. It uses tokens from Apple rather than a simple spreadsheet with redemption codes as it was in the past. 

I hope this helps – sorry it has been so difficult. I am hoping once we fully integrate, it will get easier!
