  • 1.  Transferring Files By Using The "Transfer Files" Task Fails Randomly But Often

I have Symantec Ghost Version 11.0 and use it for imaging and transfering files to classroom computers. However, it has a high fail rate when tranferring files. Almost EVERY time, at least 3 or more clients fail during the transfer, sometimes more than that. I've tried using both Directed Broadcast and Multicast, tried limiting the bandwidth, but still get failing clients. If I go back and do the failed clients individually, they will work just fine. It fails with random clients at random times. I am transferring to the root of a second hard drive on machines running vista ultimate with UAC turned off and the fire wall turned off.

    WHATS GOING ON???:smileyindifferent:

    Hi,

    Hi,

Do you use 11.0 or one of the patches released later?

Under certain conditions we have seen this happening and it appears to be related to the firewall. Though you turn the firewall Off, it may actually block traffic if the transfer starts just after booting the machine. We did some fixes in this area in the live update builds, and it is worth trying.

Do you see these failures when the transfer is part of another step that restarts the machine? If you run the task separately (without anything to reboot the machines) does it behave differently?

Could you try disabling the firewall service (rather than turning it off) since you don't use it? This may show if this is actually related to the firewall.

    I have version 11.0.0.1502

I have used Live Update, installed the updates, but still get the same results.

The Firewall service is turned off.

This step is not part of another step. There is no reboot

The machines do not get turned off regularly. they have been running most of the day before the transfers begin.

they are all the same make and model computers (Dell Precision 390's with x64 vista and Broadcom 57xx network cards) that all get imaged at least once a week with the same image, but different machines fail every time.

If this cannot be resolved, I will have to start searching for another product that is more stable and reliable.

Okay Okay, so I didn't completely install the new 2.0.2 update completely. It down downloaded, sat there for quite a while, so I thought it was done. I just tried it again, got preoccupied with something else, then it start installing the download much later after downloading.

    The new Version is 11.0.2.1573

Things seem to be transfering better now, but only tried it a few times.
