  • 1.  Trial License expired from Altiris Deployment Console

    Posted Mar 23, 2011 10:04 AM

    Hello,

I have currently about 60-70 HP Thin clients of different models in our Altiris Deployment Console.

We have been using altiris Deployment Console to run restart jobs on the thin clients, deploy images and install new thin clients.

The Evaluation LIC has now expired and I'm having random problems.

Some new thin clients (new computers) show up, some don't. The restart jobs doesn't run anymore but I can restart thin clients from the console.

As I understand it all newly bought HP Thin Clients have an included Altiris node license.

But what about the Altiris Deployment console? What type of licensing does that require?

Are the problems I'm having connected to the fact that the trial license expired? It expired a week ago but the problems seem to start to occur now.

    Hi MrDaniel,

I've searched more information about the licensing. Please take a look at the botton of this HP article that is about the general information of HP t5740 Thin Client: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/product_pdfs/t5740_datasheet_020910.pdf

"1. The Altiris Deployment Solution software is pre-installed but users must purchase a software license to activate the software. Visit www.symantec.com/business/deploymentsolution to purchase a license to the Altiris Deployment Solution software."

Please contact Symantec Sales team to confirm these information for you: http://www.symantec.com/business/contact_sales.jsp

And, if is posible, let us kwnow if these information is correct, ok?

    Regards,

    Hello Luke!

I do have (as an example) the HPT 5550 which Do state in the pdf-documents for it (user has to buy a license.)

But how do I motivate my customer to buy licenses when it works SOMETIME and sometimes not?

Last week I connected a new thin client HPT5550 to our customer network. The Altiris CE .Net Agent discovered my Altiris server and I used it to create an image.

Today I connect a thin client of the exact same model, the Altiris CE .Net Agent finds my Altiris server but it doesn't show up in the Altiris Deployment Console.

I'm so confused about the license part or if the configuration on the server is wrong but it does not seem so.

I've tried to get help from the customer license support by mail but they do not seem to understand my questions.

It Really looks like the problem is which the license expires on the DC and one document I've read states that the Deployment Console will not accept any new information from Agents and will discard the packages that the clients tries to send but I'm just speculating.

    Hello MrDaniel!

See if this help you: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO32526&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1300904242137.

This article is explaing that, since 2010, not all HP Thin Clients receive free licenses. Only the models registered in the article.

I think that the main reason that new Thin Clients are working fine with Deployment for while, is because they have a 30 day evaluation licenses that will expire after 30 days and you will see the error: "Evaluation license has expired" on the client in the aclient systray settings.

Take a look at this article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO30296&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1300904242137

Please let us know is this informations make senses for your enviroment, ok?

    Regards,

I looked at the settings mentioned and in the DC the ": 'Automatically replace expired trial licenses with available regular licenses'." was already checked.

I don't get any warnings from the Altiris CE .Net Agent regarding license expired.

But as the document states HPT5550 does Not contain a free Altiris license so that should mean that it would expire after some grace period but it haven't so far and looking at the difference between when the client I installed two weeks ago and these new clients that doesn't show up in the DC, there is no difference.

Maybe the combination of my Deployment Console using a trial license and the mixture of licenses from the thin clients have made the database corrupt?

Because I do not understand why the DC won't even display my new thin clients. Isn't that strange?
