I'm trying to load the trialware version and am getting "Trialware version of Ghost can only be installed on the machine once". Is there a way to bypass this so I can test this product?

    Thanks!

I too am having this problem.

I did have Ghost 7 installed, but removed it. I went through registry and removed everything referencing Symantec Ghost, but to no avail.

Additionally, twice I called tech support and was on hold for over 22 minutes each time before having to hang up. That is almost an hour on hold!

Symantec, if you want Enterprise users to purchase this program, you have to kick product support up a couple notches. 1 - Cannot install on a clean system, and 2 - Cannot reach Enterprise tech support....

Lucky, I don't have any problem to download the trialware and install it. Just wondering, what applications have been installed on your machine?

    Van -

    The installer generates the message

"The Trialware version of Ghost can only be installed on this machine once."

if it believes that this release of trialware was installed previously on this machine.

Unfortunately the trialware release for SGSS 2.0 (11.0.0.1502) will not install on a machine that has had
previous releases of trialware installed. This includes the trialware releases of the following products

    * Symantec Ghost 8.0 Corporate Edition
    * Symantec Ghost 7.5 Corporate Edition
    * Symantec Ghost 7.0 Enterprise Edition

    You ask
    >"Is there a way to bypass this so I can test this product?"

There is no command line flag to the installer that will allow this check to be bypassed.

    Some options to consider:

    * Install the trialware on a different machine.

    * Install the trialware in a virtual machine on this machine and evaluate it on that context.
With e.g. VMware Workstation, it is possible to take a snapshot of the virtual machine before
installing the trialware then "reverting" the snapshot to uninstall at the end of the trial period.

    * Backup the machine's hard drive(s), wipe the hard drive(s) and restore the hard drive(s).
Use a partition-level or file-system-level backup technology. Do not take raw images of the disks.
    Then attempt the install again.

I mention all these approaches first since they do not involve modifying the installer.

    Eric -

    >"I did have Ghost 7 installed, but removed it."

Can you recall if the "Ghost 7" was a trialware release?

    >"I went through registry and removed everything referencing Symantec Ghost, but to no avail."

As you can conclude, this issue is not due to problems with the registry but rather the trialware installer.
The environment cannot be easily changed to fit the conditions the installer is checking for.

    >"1 - Cannot install on a clean system"

In this case what you call a "clean system" and what the installer considers "clean" do not coincide.

I'm also getting the same problem. I had previously installed GS 1.1 but decided not to implement it because there was not enough benefit over Ghost 8. I thought I'd try GS 2 to see what else has changed but can't install.

I'm sorry but I've not got another machine I want to use to test this software and I'm not going to rebuild my machine just to install it. Symantec need to come up with an alternative or I want even be able to review the product, let alone recomend it to my company
