    Trigger scan is manually triggered
Scheduled scan runs automatically at a time

A scheduled scan is the one which I scheduled either from SEPM or SEP client to run at a particular time. This scan runs on System Priviledge.
A user need not be logged in for this scan to run.Scheduled scan will run only at a time when it is confugured to run.

Trigger scan is one in which the user manually runs a scan like custom scan, active scan or full scan. The user has to be logged in to run this scan.
this scan runs in logged in users priviledge.A user can anytime trigger a scan

    Hi,

A trigger scan can be defined as a generalization of a DefWatch scan. When definitions get updated, it "triggers" a scan which is called as Trigger Scan/Defwatch Scan.

You can find this info in the Implementation Guide for SEP 12 SBE.

In other words Trigger Scan is also called On-Demand Scan.

On demand scan is different. Thats where you have to manually initiate the scan by clicking on a button.

Trigger scan is based on a condition.

So Aniket is right on this it looks names have changed for SEp 12 SBE

Administrator-defined scans detect viruses and security risks
by examining files and processes. Administrator-defined scans
can inspect memory and load points.
The administrator-defined scans are as follows:
    ■ Scheduled scans
Ascheduled scan runs on the client computers at designated
times. The concurrently scheduled scans run sequentially.
If a computer is turned off during a scheduled scan, the scan
does not run unless it is configured to retry missed scans.
You can schedule an active, full, or custom scan.
    ■ Startup scans and triggered scans
Startup scans run when the users log on to the computers.
Triggered scans run when new virus definitions are
    downloaded to computers.
    ■ On-demand scan
The on-demand scan provides immediate results. The
administrators can run the on-demand scan from the console.

So would it be safe to say a triggered scan gets logged in the scan histories log as a manual scan? I ask because some of my users are asking why they see a manual scan, when they have not started one? The only scans I have running are start up and triggered.
