Trouble creating image for Dell E7440 AIO

I am trying to capture and image using GhostCast Server for the Dell E7440 AIO.  Normally on these newer Dell systems I have to install the drivers for the network card as part of the WinPE 4.0.  I have added all the Intel drivers for the I219-LM to the environment and also tried using drvload from a command prompt to do it manually.  I cannot get the network card to come online.  I have tried loading just about every version of this network driver without success.  Any ideas or things to try?

Are you **sure** that the new machines have the I219-LM chips in them?  DELL sometimes change internal hardware if there is a shortage of any specific chipset.  If there is any doubt, and you have one of these machines with a vendor install of Windows on it, you can get a printout of the internal devices and their associated drivers using this technote: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/readyutility-assist-identifying-plug-and-play-drivers

Also, make sure any wifi functionality is turned off in case the AIO is trying to get connected via WiFi rather than cable.

I used the VBscript to confirm that it is indeed a I219-LM.  Here is the entry:

    Manufacturer: Intel
    Name: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-LM
    Description: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-LM
    Class GUID: {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    PNP Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B7&SUBSYS_06C51028&REV_31\3&11583659&0&FE
    Device Class: NET
    Hardware ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B7&SUBSYS_06C51028&REV_31
    Inf Name: oem16.inf
    Service: e1dexpress

This model is not equiped with a WiFi adapter.

    Any other ideas?

Check out this post in the forum:

I know this is for a different model computer but it uses the I219-LM NIC. There are 2 comments that provide links to drivers for this NIC that may help.

I have tried all those drivers without any luck. Still looking for a solution.

Just to dot all the i's - are the drivers you are using correct for the WinPE4 build you are using?  The drivers need to be Win 8.x and either 32 bit or 64 bit depending on whether WinPE4 is 32 bit or 64 bit.  Are you using a static IP address or are you using DHCP?  From the WinPE command line, can you get a valid IP address showing when you type ipconfig ?  Is the WinPE firewall turned off ?

If the suggestions from EdT don't solve your issue can you look at using a newer version of WinPE? What version of Ghost are you using? The latest GSS 3.1 supports multiple versions of WinPE including WinPE5 and WinPE10.

I tried all the Win 8.x drivers with no success. it is possible that this will work with a newer WinPE version.  I am going to try this later.  Since I needed to get these out right away I just used an external usb drive to capture the image and deploy to the other computers.  This actually went super fast, less than half the time of doing it over the network.

I have successfully imaged several Dell models with the I219-LM NIC including the 7440 AIO.  I don't have access to the hardware to check at the moment, but I have seen the Optiplex 7040, Latitude 7270, Latitude 7470 and Precision Tower 3420 which I believe all have this NIC and the driver worked for all of them. Here is a link to the driver download that worked for us: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22283/Intel-Ethernet-Adapters-Connections-CD  I have used this driver in our WinPE 5 x64 boot image using DS 7.1 and WinPE 10 x64 boot image in GSS.  I have not tested the x86 version.

The driver that worked for me was PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62\e1d62x64.inf

I have added it to our boot image using the built in Boot Disk Creator as well as injecting it into the existing boot image using DISM.

    Hope that helps!

EDIT: I updated the path to the driver that worked for me, I accidently included the wrong location it is NDIS62 that worked, not NDIS64.  Sorry about that!

I had this exact same problem with an HP Z240 - same NIC, I had to download a driver that was 2 versions old for it to work.

sym2016. We are trying to image HP Z240 ourselves. What driver did you use?
