Trouble with internet connection

Created: 03 Oct 2012 | 5 comments

Hi,

I installed Backup Exec 2012 small business trial version on a freshly installed windows server 2003 R2 OS on a server and the trial period expired, that day internet connection was lost throughout the network, I rebooted and got internet back, then purchased the license for the product, and after more than a week of no response from symantec, I had to track it down and finally got the license file emailed to me, then installed it on the server running Backup Exec as it said to do and it was working fine. Now Back up Exec shows only 56 days remaining on trial version and we lose internet connection every weekend, when we come back to work on Monday we need to, not only reboot the modem and router but, also disconect the server from the network too, before we can get internet. Did anybody had this problem? Did I forget to configure something?  I have the sp1a from the trial installation on it already.

Hi,

SP1a doesn't have anything to do with it being a trial version before.

Contact the Symantec licensing department and ask them to regenerate your license key and send through to you again. Then import the *.slf file into BE and see if this is fixed.

Thanks!

Hi, Craig.

Thanks for the response, I will do as you say, I'll get that license file (.slf) again from Symantec and import it as I did before, but do you think it has anything to do why we lose internet every weekend though? Is Backup Exec by any chance messing with the internet connection? I also have endpoint protection and it sends me an email every Friday night from the server, could it be that somehow they flood the network and the router just hangs?

Thanks.

You'd have to check your router logs and/or WAN/LAN traffic around that time.

I'll definitely do that when I'll be forced to go reboot the modem and router next Monday, something I never had to do till the license for the trial expired, I want more "ammo" to troubleshoot this issue when I get there, I'm coming over with a new router too, a Linksys E4200 Dual Band. I don't want to come to find out later that after I made the owner of the office tryout and later purchase Backup Exec, and a new router, I still have to drive 50 miles to reboot every Monday because I didn't configure the software correctly somehow, that's why I appreciate your help and prompt response.

I'm new in this community and from what I see, I like and I will be around for a while, I want to get to know the products I made this client buy very well, so that I can get other clients to also get them, if they work properly off course.

I got the dreaded call from the office today, "we have no internet", so I drove the 50 miles and checked the logs on the server after I rebooted and got them back to the internet and the times match with when Endpoint Protection does updates, I configure it to do updates too often I guess. I just changed it to just do updates once a week and retries only after four hours. I hope this does the trick Oh and there where also three hotfixes needed to be done.
