  • 1.  Trouble joining pc to domain

When we image Vista machines on our domain the task comes back as completed, But when we try to join the domain we get this error: the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. We then have to drop the pc's off the domain and bring them back. We are using a generic sysprep file for the configuration. Also our altiris server is on the domain as well. Any ideas would greatly help

Are you using sysprep to add the computer to the domain or DS?

Sorry Anthony I meant to say we use sysprep to join the users to the DS

Now I'm totally confused. You can't uses sysprep to join users to DS.

I think the problem here is you are using sysprep to actually join the computer to the domain, and then Altiris tries to reconfigure it after the job is done, essentially breaking the trust. I would have sysprep only join it to a workgroup and have DS join it to the domain.

This is John responding. We build a Vista image and choose all of the defaults to create the image. Upon sending the image to the lab we:

CREATED IMAGE USING ALL DEFAULTS UNDER CREATE IMAGE
    1: Select the image file
computer used for base image is on domain and all updates apllied

    2. Select lab on the network

    3. Prepare using sysprep

Operating system and Product key Windows Vista Business

    4. Check Automatically perform configuration task after completing imaging task
    5. Check Boot to production to complete configuration task.

When we did this process under 6.9 lab would image and machines would join domain without issue. Now under service pack 1. We couldn't get pcs to join domain. Thats when we started looking at the sysprep file for a solution.

All we want is an automated way like we had of imaging the pc's in our labs and having them joined to the domain. I know to some of you this is basic knowledge but we have 1200 pc's to image and automation is very important to us. What has changed that is preventing us from having an automated process for vista and or for that matter xp.

Appreciate all of your time and advice.

Like mentioned earlier if you are adding the computer to the domain using sysprep you don't want to have DS automatically perform a configuration task after imaging.
