I need help in troubleshooting a particular problem.Using GUP`s to provide updates to branch offices. In some branches some clients use the GUP some still use the SEPM although the policy is set to never failover to the SEPM,this produces hign network traffic.I am using a "multiple gups" setting and designating the gup via registry key,The client comunication log shows "Failed to connect to all gups, now trying to sepm"

Basic troubleshooting would involve pinging the gup,and telenting to the GUP port (2967),i guess the next thing would be using sylink monitor?Another question is,should i enable sylink debuging or not prior to using the sylink montor? In the link below there is a statement "The following is an alternative to running Sylink Watcher or Sylink Monitor"

Any suggestions are appretiated, any additional info on troubleshoting sepl client=> GUP is appretiated

P.S. the clients and the gup`s have the same version of SEP instaled,12.1

Run the sylink monitor it should give you the clue

GUP can take update only from SEPM, make sure this is checked in your policy.

Please check that GUP server IP is configured in your SEPM GUP list or not if not then you need to add your GUP ip in your GUP list, GUP system will get updated only from SEPM.

And you can change sylink.xml file on the system which is not getting updated from GUP machine.

Thank& Regards,

If you enable Sylink logging via the reg then you won't need the separate tool to grab the sylink logs, they'll just be dumped at whatever path you entered in the DumpSyLink key.

Thaks for all the replies. However i have two more question.

1.In ored to ensure the minimum ports opened between sep = > gup,gup => sepm and sep => sepm which ports must be opened?

sep=>GUP Only port 2967 is sufficent?

GUP=>SEPM Only port 8014 is sufficent? The GUP will comunicate with the SEPM and ask for updates that clients request from the GUP,then it downlaods the updates and distribute them

sep=> sepm 8014 ONLY? This is enough for the client to comunicate normaly with the SEPM,to find out which updates does it needs,to downalod the polcies and to upload reports to the SEPM.If i were not using GUP for updates, port 8014 is sufficent for the client to downlaod updates from the SEPM directly?I guess the same port is sufficent for software updates from the SEPM as well?

2.The sep client installed on the computer acting as a GUP installs updates from the GUP cache or directly from the SEPM ?

1. 2967 is all you need to open for GUP communication

2. GUP will get its updates from the SEPM
