Troubleshooting tape libraries drivers
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments
Hi all,
I installed Backup Exec12.5 and downloaded all the available updates.
My Backup Exec 12.5 is installed on windows 2003 enterprise edition 32 bit, and my problems is that i can't install the Qualstar TLS-4210 Tape Library.
I can see that the windows installed the tape library ( i can see it in the device manager), but when i want to install it using the Backup Exec 12.5 hardware wizard, i see that it's searching all the SCSI adapters and looking for the tape library, but at the end of the day, nothing happens.
I added the error i got in my event viewer, hope it will he help you out.
Best regards,
Nahum

THat technote from Ben L. is what we all would go according to, so it's good he pointed you to that. From my side I'd also check to make sure that you don't have a shipping lock still in the unit, and disable Removable Storage.
If you find this is a solution, please mark it as such.
Drivers?
I've seen odd things from supported libraries. Some things to try:
-Try using Symantec's drivers only, and deleting all vendor drivers.
-If that doesn't work, try the reverse.
-Make sure the library itself is not set to "off-line". That's not an obvious setting on some libraries, and rebooting the library doesn't always reset it.
-Like CraigV says, check for shipping locks - try running some kind of internal diagnostics.
