    Hi,

A user's laptop has crashed and he would like to recover files from his encrypted hard drive. Is there any way to either recover the files from the hard drive or decrypt the hard drive? His operating system on his laptop was Windows 7. I'm not exactly sure which version of Symantec Encryption he had on there but we now use Endpoint Encryption Client 11.1 on our new laptops.

    Thanks!

cg225, you will want to run emergency decryption. The process differs depending on the version used. Once decrypted, you will be able to access the files as needed.

Though when you say "the laptop crashed" if their is a physical disk issue, you MAY run into issues with decryption.

Do I just simply burn the file "as is" to a blank CD/DVD? Or do I need to extract it first?

**Edit: Never mind, I had WinZip as the default program for .iso files. I changed it to Window Explorer and was able to burn the image to a disc. I was able to boot the CD on the troubled laptop and it is currently decrypting the hard drive. I will update once it is finished.
