Trying to run Ghost Solution Suite on a Dell T7500 XP SP2 64bit

I am trying to pull an image of the a Dell T7500 runing Windows XP SP2 64bit.  The ghost server sees the PC as connected and will reboot the PC, but it will not write to the virtual partition.  I am using the Universal Driver Packet package.  I have also tried to run this setup from the onboard NIC and the external NIC.  Any ideas would be great.  Thank you in advance.

SATA mode

try switching the SATA operation mode in the BIOS to legacy or non-ahci.  your boot disk probably doesnt like the AHCI mode

Tried to start the Ghost with the drives in ATA mode, but I get the same thing.  It will still not write to the virutal partiton.  It pops up an error for a second but it is too quick for me to read it.

the "correct" way

would be to use a 32bit PE boot disk that has AHCI storage drivers but it requires you to have a driver for every machine.  also when you get new machine you have to update your boot disk.  personally i stick to the dos based universal driver and disable AHCI when i need to

drivers

It is indeed true that the 32bit WinPE method does require SATA drivers, but the default build has most that are necessary. Server hardware aside, there are two primary SATA controller drivers not in our basic WinPE build due to the fact they were released after Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 went to market. Here they are:

jeremydehner, I would advise

jeremydehner,

I would advise upgrading to Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 and using WinPE as your PreOS boot environment. It supports SATA controllers in their native AHCI mode. Kurbycar32 is likely right, and what he recommended may indeed resolve the issue, but the SATA mode would be switched to the slower legacy mode. You may try using these switches prior to switching to legacy mode:

-FNI -NOIDE -NOUSB -FFX

These are disk geometry switches that often allow us to interact with the drive better. If these fail, using both these and legacy mode will often allow images of newer SATA drives. But WinPE/GSS 2.5 is a better fit.

Randall I have Ghost Console

Randall
I have Ghost Console version 11, and I don't see an option for WinPE when I open the Ghost Boot Wizard.  Is there something else that I can try?  I have gotten this program to work successfully on Dell Optiplex 755's and 620's just not on anything else.

Options

Ghost 11 (Ghost Solution Suite 2.0) does not have a WIndows PE option. If you have a support contract, you should be entitled to a free upgrade to GSS 2.5. If you want to use GSS 2.0 (Ghost version 11), then I would advise these solutions:

1. First, try running the task with these command line switches (added via the Advanced button in the task window):

-FNI -FFX -NOIDE -NOUSB

2. If that fails, try switching the SATA mode to legacy (as kurbycar32 recommended).

3. If both of those fail, combine the two, having the SATA mode set to legacy and using the above command line switches.

If all of those fail to work, you will definitely need to upgrade and use Windows PE.

Thank you,

Randy

Randall thank you for the

Randall thank you for the response.  I have tried the solution iwth the drives set to ATA all of the switches added and still no joy.  I will check on service contract,  and get a download for 2.5.

best choice

Excfellent! I definitely think that is the best choice. Be sure to let us know how that works.
