Right now I have an LTO4 tape library and backup exec 11d. We have media pools for our backups (daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly). On Friday night and sunday night a daily backup runs, and on saturday night a weekly backup runs. on Monday when I come into work i check the backup exec to see which media tape it used, and it says they all used the same tape. what would cause that? The tapes are set to not be overwritten for 2 weeks. Any help would be appreciated.. thanks

Are all the jobs overwrite, or are they append?

Do they all use the same media set?

What is the OPP (Overwrite Protection period) for the media set(s)?

Job Log, Right Click\Properties to see the job definitions

Media tab, right click the media set \Properties to see the OPP and APP for each media set

Very strange.  With those settings, the Weeklky should be safe for three weeks

Does the jog log for the weekly show a successful completion?

Yeah, it all shows successful completions, and when i view the media details for the job that ran, it says the same tape. This has happened before when the company had a day off, backup still ran that night, but that tape used said it was the same as the previous nights. im not sure what to make of this.

it won't unscrew things as they exist, but I'd recommend a database repair using BEUTIL

ok, id have to recommend it to the person who actually edits the backup exec. what could be the problem? do you think its actually using seperate tapes but it just reports that it uses the same?

I doubt that.

The only other thing can think of would be to verify that the job is writing to the media set that you think it is, not to another media set with different properties (I know, that is reaching, but as I said, it's all I can think of)
