We do IT for a customer who has a endpoint protection server 12.0.1001.95 and the hard drive is to full to do any kind of upgrade etc.

So we have determined since he has kept up on his mintenance and I can and have downloaded the latest greatest we are going to install it on a new server.

My question being can I do that and just push the newer protection to clients and leave the old one in place till I get everyone up and running on the new one?

Or will the old server try to do something the clients after I have upgraded them?

Do I need to do a all at once and install the new server then shut off the old and push out the new protection?

    Thanks in advance.

Best bet is to setup replication between the two but they would both need to be on the same version.

How many clients are we talking about. If a small amount, yuo can just shut down the old one and once you get the new one up and running, replace the sylink on them with one from the new SEPM...but again, this is easy if a small number of clients.

Well we really only need one server it is just the one that is running it right now only has 2 gig free on the C: drive where it is installed on a good day.

There is about 110 clients at the main location where the server is and about 20ish at two other locations.

So I had planned on installing the newest on a new server with plenty of space and then I thought I have heard you can push out from the new server console to install the latest protection on the clients that way?

Well I thought I replied but do not see it when I did a refresh so if this is a duplicate please excuse me.  :)

We only really need one server it is just the original on a good day only has about 2 gig free on the C drive where it is isntalled.   I did not install that.

So I read or talked to someone a while back when I first wanted to just upgrade the existing to the new version so I have more control over DB size etc. and found not enough room.

When I was researching back then I thought I found out that wheni install the new version on a new server I push the agent and new protection out from the new console.

    Is that a correct statment?

Can it be pushed to a system when it first hits the new server automatically ?

    Thanks

    Mike

If the answer to my next question is in the above documentation that I have not fully read yet I appoligise.

I am working on scheduling this with the client in about a week I am hoping so trying to see how much of a issue this is with the clients as we go through this process above.

I get the new server loaded and disable the services on the old server till I am ready to uninstall it from there.

My new question is for the above processes of updating the communication settings to point to the new server and then doing the auto upgrade any idea how many times the clients will have to reboot?

    Thanks again for the help.

Should be no more than once for an upgrade.

No reboot is needed just to replace the sylink file.
