Have Backup exec 9.1 installed on Win2000 server
Previouly was backing up Win2000 server, Shared folder on 2 workstations, and 2 folders on Netware 3.12 server
which I had access to via the Microsoft Gateway for netware
Was not backing system state on any remote ressources but no need to

Netware 3.12 server died and has been replaced by 2nd Win2000 server
Problem need to access 2 shared folders on ths 2nd sever but Backup exec will not let me open any access to this server
As before it does not see any mapped drives set on this server to thie 2nd server and although it sees the 2nd server its selection even insofar as shared folders is greyed out

How do I resolve this problem
this 2nd server does not need to be backed up or completely protected.
I just need to get access to its shared folders which I have mapped as drives on the main server (which has backup exec and the tape backup drive

Please help

When a remote server shares are greyed out, it usually signifies that there isn't a remote agent license present on the media server. Please contact our Sales department for information regarding a Remote Agent License. (800) 327-2232.

If there is a Remote Agent installed, it could be that User Shares are greyed out. Make sure Tools -> Options -> Network -> Enable selection of user Shares is selected.

I have installed the remote agent on the 2 workstations and the performance is better but this agent was not essential to backing up their shared volumes.
Is it essential when the shared folder is on a server instead of a workstation
Installing this agent on the workstations did not require a license
Is a license absolutely required if the shared folder is on a server
How does one install that license
my main license of course was requested when I installe Backup exec on this server

You need a license for the Remote Agent only when backing up a server.

And yes a license is absolutely required to be able to backup anything on a server, even a shared directory.

Licenses are installed through BE, Tools, Serial Numbers and Installation.

To install the license, you may refer the following technote. Please note that if you select the remote option as shown in figure 2, you need to install remote agent. If remote agent is already installed, please do not select remote option.
