  • 1.  Unable to apply rules or stop SPAM on SBG 7.7.0

    Posted Oct 30, 2008 03:33 AM

    Good Day All.

I just setup an SBG for inbound and outbound mail filtering. Mail flow is fine in and out.

I am just unable to see any spam being stopped, the Dashboard shows nothing in the inbound summary, I setup a rule to block a sender (user@hotmail.com) but this account is able to send email to my corporate users. So I presume this rule is also not working. What am I missing in this Setup.

The Defaults should be enough for Spam being stopped immediately, right?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

OK, firstly, you've definitely got mail coming through BGW right? :)

Assuming that you have got traffic coming through, are you recieving spam definition updates?

Is there anything showing up for these spam messages in the Message Audit Log that give an indication why the policies aren't applied? (whitelisting an upstream IP address for example?)

Open the UI and click the Spam tab to bring up the spam policies.

Do you have the appropriate spam policies enabled for your groups?

Click Administration tab then choose Groups in the left menu.

Have you modified the groups section at all?  Are any new groups enabled for the correct policies?

Right, mail is coming and going, even SPAM :smileysad:
Spam Definitions says: 5 minutes ago
I have no Customizations, everything is in defaults
On SPAM Email I have all enabled.
On number of groups I have 1 on the first and second "Email Spam Policies"
On Administration\Groups I have checkmarks on all but COMPLIANCE, END USERS and LANGUAGE
I have several of These: 2008 Oct 30 12:02:15 CST (warning) delivery-mta/smtp[12639]: warning: numeric domain name in resource data of MX record for myfirstmail.com: 68.178.232.100

ON Status\ Inbound msg Summary nothing shows up
ON Status\ Outbound msg Summary there is info, Color bars, etc, that is working fine, I think

    What else can I check?

    Thanks for the response

    Got it resolved.

A colleague was doing some tests of his own and changed the firewall rule to send smtp traffic directly to the Exchange Server.

Changed it back to point to the Brightmail Gateway and it is working fine.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hello,

If the "relay access denied" message is coming from the Symantec box, it is most likely the "Local Domains" section of the interface. You need to make sure that all domains that you receive mail for are listed here. Other than that we shouldn't be causing that error.

    Hope this helps!
